Centro Storico
Apulia - Val d Itria - Locorotondo |
|
The white washed hilltown of Locorotondo, in the middle of Valle d'Itria joined the Club of 'The Most Beautiful Villages of Italy' in 2001 and its scenic promenade has been described as the most beautiful balcony in Murgia dei Trulli. In the historical centre of this lively hilltop town, closed to traffic, we have discovered a number of wonderfully restructured apartments for weekly rental offering a unique opportunity to experience at first hand the wonderful village life in an 'undiscovered' hilltown.
Features- Experience the evening passeggiata and daily rythm of life
- Exceptional quality accommodation
Description The apartments, sleeping from two to five people, offer very comfortable accommodation in the heart of this charming hilltop town which has retained its traditional way of life and culture. We stayed at a lovely two bedroom apartment and were thrilled to have found such a wonderful base for exploring Locorotondo and the surrounding Itria Valley, a magnificent country punctuated by trulli and fortified manor houses, known as Masserie. The Centro Storico rental apartments have been refurbished with great care, leaving the original features and structure intact, but incorporating all the modern comforts of this era. The styling of the apartments has followed traditional styles and each apartment has a dining/kitchenette area, air conditioning and heating, satellite flat screen TVs and surrounding sound system, a safe, and hairdryers. Wandering through Locorotondo is a delight: you can peek down whitewashed alleys to see old women preparing homemade pasta in the cool of their open doorways; join the locals taking their evening stroll (passeggiata) between piazzas; sit down at one of the restaurants in town for a simple but delicious meal, accompanied by the robust local red wine, without having to worry that, walking back to your apartment, you cannot find your doorway... Handmade tableware and high quality bed linen, plush bath towels and courtesy sets are also provided, as well as daily cleaning service with change of towels.
Position The historical centre of Locorotondo is a no car zone, so access to all of the apartments is by foot from the large public carparking area (no charge). The furthest apartment is not more than 200m from the nearest road point from the point of view of luggage transfers. Distances - Alberobello (famous Trullo town) - 8 km
- Cisternino - another hilltop town - 10 km
- Ignatia excavations - 15 km
- Ostuni - a larger hilltop town - 20 km
- Castellana Caves - 20 km
- Nearest beaches - 20 km
This locality
The town seems out of a fairytale: tiny streets, paved with shiny white stone and lined by lime washed houses, creates a great contrast against the blue sky and the intense colour of bright geraniums adorning almost every balcony. All around you can feel the sense of order, respect and mature civility that surrounds small treasures of art and simple Mediterranean architecture. > more

Alberobello does not need much introduction as it is widely known as the home of the Trullo, a type of cylindrical construction in dry rock with a conical roof. Often constructed in series of trulli joined together with interconnecting rooms, the history of the trullo has more myth than factual history attached to it.> more
Martina Franca has a unique setting, dominating the Valle d'Itria, known as the Valley of the Trulli with its vineyards, small groups of houses, dry stone walls and open countryside. The climate adds to the appeal, and, due to its position 400 meters above sea level, a wonderfully mild temperature throughout the summer months is guaranteed. It is conveniently located between the Ionic and Adriatic seas, both of which are within excursion distance.> more
