Casale Marchese is an elegant period property dating back to the 18th Century situated in the tiny hamlet of Nerano, overlooking the sea towards the Amalfi Coast on the Sorrento Peninsula. The property has been recently refurbished and divided into four spacious apartments, surrounded by 500 sqm of garden spread on three levels, with lush lawns, fragrant lemon trees, large shady pergolas equipped for alfresco dining and a delightful swimming pool.

Description Casale Marchese is located in the middle of the quaint hamlet of Nerano on the south side and towards the end of the Sorrento Peninsula, overlooking the sea towards the Amalfi Coast. Marina del Cantone with its lovely pebbly beach and characteristic fishing village is situated about 15 minutes walk downhill from the Casale. Perfect for swimming, it offers a choice of home style trattorias and cafes, boat hire and daily excursion boats to Capri, Positano, Amalfi (mid and high season only). Meanwhile the surrounding hills offer great opportunity for keen walkers and the area boasts some of the best restaurants in Italy. The accommodation at Casale Marchese is accessed through an antique portico leading into an open terrazza area with three open portico windows and an ancient wisteria tree providing shade and colour. The apartments are separated over three levels and enjoy wonderful views over the bay. Furnished in a simple coastal style, they are comfortable, light and clean. Below the accommodation, there are three terraced levels of recreation area. On the first level, there is a lawned solarium equipped with sun beds, swing chair and parasol. On the second level is a swimming pool with Roman steps and spa, surrounded by fragrant lemon trees and lush lawn. To one end a large shaded gazebo equipped with locally crafted wrought iron table and chair sets, for outdoor dining and relaxing. An additional gazebo, also equipped for al fresco eating, is situated at the lower level of the garden, with a small children playground. The surrounding area offers ample opportunities for walkers and nature lovers. The village of Nerano is one of the few access points for entering the Cape Jeranto national park with historic Sarasen towers, typical fauna and the wonderful beach at Jeranto Cove. Further walking tracks criss cross the small hill vilages throughout the peninsula and the furthest point of the peninsula is easily reachable within a few hours hiking. The sea in this area is jutted with small islands and tiny coves, one of them being Crapolla, an antique smugglers cove from which the fable of Ulyses and the Sirens was born. The water is crystal clear and ideal for swimming.

This locality
Situated approximately 14 km from Sorrento, the Nerano locality is a primarily agricultural/fishing community which in bygone centuries had little to do with its neighbouring areas. Blessed by a pleasant climate, wonderful outlook and steep sun drenched descent towards the sea it was the enclave of a small number of families who handed down their interests from generation to generation. Even today it is possible to recognise a strong concentration of the family surnames.> more

Special Notes for Casale Marchese 2011 prices are provisional and may be revised, however most owners will accept bookings at 2010 prices until the new prices are confirmed. Please send an enquiry and we'll respond with a firm quote. Please refer to our Terms and Conditions in respect to additional charges and extras applicable to rental villas and apartment accommodation. Refundable security depositA refundable security deposit of € 250.00 is payable on arrival at the apartments (can be in equivalent $US or £GBP). The deposit will be refunded on final inspection excepting in the event of damage or for the deduction of extras. Services and extras (in Euros):- Cleaning fees: Included in rent are mid week cleaning with change of linen and final cleaning on departure.
- Additional cleaning of the kitchen can be requested at a cost of €15
- Electricity, gas and water are included in the rental cost (not including airconditioning and heating (see below).
- Heating for 8 hours per day is included in the period December to February. Otherwise it is payable on the basis of energy consumed.
- Airconditioning is available in Apartment Glicine and is charged according to electricity consumption (€0.30/kw).
- A Baby cot and high chair are available at a cost of €10 per day
- Late arrival fees – we will endeavour to accommodate, but cannot guarantee to satisfy requests for late arrival. The cost of pre-arranged late arrival (if available) will be advised at the time of booking. Unforeseen delays resulting in out of hours arrivals (if available) will incur a charge of € 50.00 payable to the local manager.
Other information- The season for pool opening is mid March to the end of October;
- Baby sitting services can usually be organised locally by the area manager;
- Boats and bikes hire, food hampers, cooking and many other services mentioned on our booking form can be pre-arranged and prices will be provided on application.

Nearby localities
Termini is a jewel at the end of the Sorrento Peninsula which at 300 mts above the sea, faces out to the Bay of Naples and the Isle of Capri. The piazza has a panoramic balcony where one can sit for hours enjoying the fine views of Marina Grande, Tiberius's leap, the Faraglioni and Mount Solaro.> more
Postcard views of Sorrento often concentrate on the impressive cliffs of volcanic rock (tufa) that run down along the coast in this area and plunge perilously into the sea. These cliffs and the wonderfully rich volcanic soils of the area provide wonderful opportunities for spectacular views from panoramic gardens which feature in this area of Italy.> more
