Gaiole in the heart of Chianti is a town surrounded by heavily forrested hills to the north and west and opening to a classic patchwork of olive groves and vinyards to the south and east. Podere Marchetti is a beautifully converted 'Fienile' lying three km from the centre of Gaiole. Set in the countryside, it is bordered on two sides by a picturesque valley of dense forrest and musical streams and on the other sides by vinyards and orchards.

Description Podere Marchetti is a restructured Fienile (barn) lying on an important property in Chianti. The main villa, a Tuscan treasure that is awaiting renovation, is situated 100 metres away and is inhabited by the owner who lives alone and tends to the gardens and surrounding farmland. Situated three kilometres from the lovely village of Gaiole (restaurants, bars, summer festivals), the entrance to Podere Marchetti is from a small unmade lane off a quiet country paved road. Descending from the road for approximately 200m the lane leads into a further driveway of 150m which leads up to the Fienile. Set on a slightly elevated terrace, Podere Marchetti overlooks the larger villa, the swimming pool and the forrested valley and hills beyond. The barn was recently renovated and provides comfortable accommodation for six guests in three bedrooms. At the rear of the accommodation is a large courtyard opening onto the orchard, equipped with BBQ and outdoor furniture for alfresco dining. The entrance leads from a walk way into an open plan living area comprising a large central dining area separated from the open plan kitchen by a circular breakfast bar. A door to the right of the entrance leads to a laundry and bathroom (bath and shower) and two further steps lead down to a large double bedroom. From the dining area, four stairs lead up to the living room from which the courtyard can be accessed. A further flight of stairs leads up to the first floor where there is a landing leading to a round bedroom with double bed a bathroom and a further double bedroom.

Pool opening dates are from 26 May to 22 September. On either side of these dates the pool period may be able to be opened on the payment of a supplement. Please enquire. Rental includes final cleaning, fresh linen at the beginning of each week, electricity and gas for normal use. There is a supplement for heating based on the consumption of energy. The podere is equipped with a wood burning heater or central heating system. The cost of LPG gas is 3.50 euros per m3 and the owner advises that the daily cost in mid winter is approximately e15 per day. The wood heater is sufficient out of mid winter and the owner will provide a reasonable amount of wood. A telephone is available for receiving calls or making local calls and is charged according to use. The owner, an Australian. lives alone in the adjacent villa and attends to maintenance of the villa, gardens and far. He is available to render any assistance required and is unobtrusive.

Siena is one of the most beautiful towns of Tuscany and perhaps Italy. Surrounded by olive groves and the vineyards of Chianti the town is set on three hills and is mostly pedenstrian only. At the centre of the town is the large Piazza del Campo, noted for the Palio horse race held each July and August and full of activity year round. An important university town, Siena has wonderful outdoor cafes, piazzas, churches and museums.> more
