Originally a Benedictine Monastery from the 12th century with its 11th Century Church, Villa Daina has been in the hands of a noble Florentine family for many generations. The former monastery built around a wonderful enclosed courtyard has been converted into a large villa featuring eight bedrooms, ten bathrooms, three living rooms, two dining rooms and the attached church, which is in original condition, including a large crypt (see the more photos).

Description Situated 15km from Arezzo and convenient to all major tourist centres, Villa Daina is an oasis of peace and natural comfort. Entering through electric gates off a secondary road, the driveway meanders for 2.5 km through rich forests beside a small stream before arriving at the parking area of the Villa. A large lake of approximately 200m x 400m is fed by natural springs and is home to a startling array of bird and wildlife. The bathing platform, equipped with sunbeds, umbrellas and with an adjacent change room provides a perfect opportunity to relax, admire and feel at one with the surrounding nature. The accommodation at Villa Daina is representative of its noble origins. The ground floor is given to social areas including two large living rooms with satellite TV and access to the front garden. A large formal dining room has an extendible table that can seat up to 20 diners and a further dining room with large open fire and grill is adjacent to the amply sized and fully equipped kitchen. A large reception hall on the first floor provides access to seven of the eight bedrooms. The two king sized bedrooms, five twins (most can be joined) and single bedroom are each equipped with ensuite bathrooms, each with a bathtub. The open courtyard is furnished with colourful flower pots and an outdoor table and umbrella for alfresco dining. Several chaise-langue and other outdoor furniture are provided for relaxation. The kitchen is amply equipped with all modern conveniences and many that would usually be found only in commercial kitchens. Rosanna the non resident housekeeper is a wonderful cook and has prepared a menu in the event that guests would like her to take care of the kitchen and preparation of meals. For a small hourly cost she will attend to the shopping, preparation, serving and cleaning up, in addition to providing tips to any aspiring cooks! We note that the property is renouned as a sustainable hunting reserve and it is not rare to sight several types of deer, mouflon (a type of wild sheep), boar, fox, pheasants and porcupines in the forests and around the lake. We do not propose to enter into the argument as to whether the owners are conservationists, but underline that the villa is adorned with many "trophies" that may offend some clients.
Position Villa Daina is situated at 500m of altitude. The entrance to the property is through electric gates and 2.5 km down a well maintained pebble driveway. A gatekeeper is resident in the gatehouse. Distances: - Closest restaurant, bar, small bar and doctor is at 4 km from the gate.

Special Notes for Villa Daina Please refer to our Terms and Conditions in respect to additional charges and extras applicable to rental villa accommodation. Refundable security deposit A refundable security deposit of € 2,500.00 is payable on arrival at the villa (can be in equivalent $US or £GBP). The deposit will be refunded on final inspection excepting in the event of damage or for the deduction of extras. The security deposit can be provided in the way of travellers cheque or a reservation on a credit card. Additional services and charges - payable locally on arrival (in Euros): - Cleaning costs are fully included in the rental cost including 3 hours per day from Monday to Friday and final cleaning on Saturday. Additional cleaning and washing services can be requested from Rosanna at a cost of €10 per hour.
- One set of bed and bath linen per week is included in the rental cost together with towells for use at the lake. Additional changes can be requested and will be charged at €80.00 per complete change.
- Late arrival fees - we will endeavour to accommodate, but cannot guarantee to satisfy requests for late arrival. The cost of pre-arranged late arrival (if available) will be advised at the time of booking. Unforeseen delays resulting in out of hours arrivals (if available) will incur a charge of € 50.00 payable to the local manager;
- Telephone - A land line is available at the villa, however the villa has also been fitted with an impulse repeater providing good cellular telephone reception (GPRS) in specified ground floor areas;
Other information - An american breakfast is provided each day and is laid out by Rosanna
- Rosanna is available to assist with most errands, cooking, and odd chores at a modest cost of €10.00 per hour paid locally. Notwithstanding that she does not speak English, communication is usually not a problem and she will babysit if requested. There is a baby cot available at the villa;
- Bicycle hire, food hampers, cooking and many other services mentioned on our booking form can be pre-arranged and prices will be provided on application.
- The animals on the estate are wild animals, but do not present a danger for guests unless provoked or tempted. Commonsense behaviour will ensure that wildlife and guests can coexist peacefully and without threat of injury.
- If you have to bring your helicopter, a landing place has been prepared near the car park
- Hunting and stalking animals is strictly prohibited on the estate except during the winter hunting season and by prearrangement.
