Only four kilometres from Radda in Chianti and surrounded by thick bushland, lush vinyards and velvety olive groves, Podere Rustico is located on a small unmade country lane, about 800m in from the asphalted road. Surrounded by shady oak , cypress and bountiful fig trees the villa which is in fact a restored mill is a secluded property where holidayers will enjoy complete peace and relaxation. A portion of the lower level is inhabited by the maid and gardener who also tend the vinyards and olive groves during the day, however their living areas, both indoor and outdoor are completely separate from the guest accommodation.

Description The unmade road leading up to the property becomes a wonderful walking track just after the entrance and at 6 kilometres the antique town of Volpaia with its two renouned tratorias is just over one hours walk away. Podere Rustico is very secure being surrounded by animal proof fencing and the entrance is through radio controlled electric gates. Previous guests advise that it is not unusual to see wild boar grazing around the fields below the cottage in the late afternoon (they present no threat to holidayers). There is parking for several cars inside the gates and a wonderful vine covered pergola surrounded by large shady oak and cypress trees adjacent to the villa entrance provides a perfect place for al fresco meals or simply enjoying the refreshing summer breezes and complete serenity. The cottage, of solid stone construction from the fifteenth century features wooden beamed ceilings, original terracotta floors and original fireplaces is set out over two levels. A part of the lower level is completely segregated from the property and is inhabited by the caretaker who has a separate enclosed courtyard at the rear of the property. At the front of the cottage, a large bedroom with ensuite bathroom opens onto a large courtyard shaded by a lovely and prolific fig tree. An external flight of stairs leads up to the main guest accommodation which is decorated in a very comfortable rustic fashion in keeping with the origins of the cottage. Of particular interest is the kitchen where four original wood fired stoves provide a modern workspace for the adjacent new kitchen which incorporates all modern conveniences. Similarly the lounge room has many original features including a large open fireplace, the original stone washing sink and many artifacts from the past. Two double seater lounges and two antique leather chesterfield loungechairs provide comfortable seating and a television with satellite reception is provided. There are two bedrooms and two bathrooms on the upstairs level. Both are rustic and the master double bedroom has an ensuite bathroom with bath, whilst the twin bedroom has indirect access to its bathroom from the ante room. At the back of the cottage at about 20 metres of distance is a large lawn and the swimming pool (12 x 6m) with a paved border area furnished with sun lounges. It is very peaceful and the lovely context with adjacent shady trees makes this property very popular.

Special Notes for Podere Rustico 2012 prices are provisional and may be revised, however most owners will accept bookings at 2011 prices until the new prices are confirmed. Please send an enquiry and we'll respond with a firm quote. Please refer to our Terms and Conditions in respect to additional charges and extras applicable to rental villas and apartment accommodation. Refundable security deposit A refundable security deposit of €250.00 is payable on arrival at the villa (can be in equivalent $US or £GBP). The deposit will be refunded on final inspection excepting in the event of damage or for the deduction of extras. Additional services and charges - payable locally on arrival (in Euros): - Final cleaning is included in the villa rental price. Additional maid service during the week is available at an hourly cost of €10. Please request the additional services prior to arrival.
- One set of bed and bath linen per week is included in the rental cost. Additional changes can be requested and will be charged at €12.00 per change per person;
- Late arrival fees - we will endeavour to accommodate, but cannot guarantee to satisfy requests for late arrival. The cost of pre-arranged late arrival (if available) will be advised at the time of booking. Unforeseen delays resulting in out of hours arrivals (if available) will incur a charge of € 50.00 payable to the local manager;
- Utility costs including electricity and gasa are included in weekly rental, however gas for central heating and telephone use are charged as an extra according to consumption.
Other information - The season for pool opening is from June to September;
- Baby sitting services can usually be organised locally by the area manager;
- Boats and bikes hire, food hampers, cooking and many other services mentioned on our booking form can be pre-arranged and prices will be provided on application.
