DescriptionCortona is a historic hill town first settled by the Etruscans well before the birth of Christ. It became an important settlement in Roman times and features quite prominently in Italy's development from those times. Borgo Etrusco is situated 4 km from Cortona at the base of the hill on which it is situated. From almost every point of the Borgo, one can look up and see the town above. The area is well connected with all major centres in Tuscany and Umbria. The entrance to Borgo Etrusco is from the provincial road connecting it with other towns. The proximity to the road is not a major concern as the buildings are all set well back and screened by gardens and trees. A gravel driveway leads to a large carpark and the Borgo is reached by paved paths. The restaurant, situated near the carpark has internal and external dining areas and behind it is a raised terrace with the swimming pool and a large border equipped with umbrellas and sun lounges. From the lawns adjacent to the pool, one can access the park areas and orchard with large shady trees, perfect for relaxing on warm summer evenings. The borgo has retained all of the external characteristics of it's original status as a farming settlement. The apartments have been renovated out of buildings once used for storing grain, pressing oil, making wine, storing farm animals, implements or housing residents. The original church occupies a central position and has a wonderfully frescoed roof.
PositionEntrance to Borgo Etrusco is from the provincial road running between Lago Trasimeno and Castiglion Fiorentino. Entrance gates lead to a gravel driveway of approximately 100m that lead to the carpark.
