Nestled in the foothills of the Apuan Alps, 2km from the sandy Mediterranean beaches lies the little medieval walled town of Pietrasanta. Long known as an artists town and regarded as a world centre for marble carving, artists before and since the time of Michelangelo have frequented the white marble mountains in the area to obtain the finest quality material for their creations.
Marina di Pietrasanta boasts a lovely downtown area near the kilometres of white sandy beaches forming a beautiful picture with the backdrop of the mountains.
Today Pietrasanta is a charming little town with a friendly and relaxed life-style, where the tradition of marble crafting is still alive together with facilities for bronze casting and laboratories for artistic mosaics.
The beauty of the areas natural resources and landscape make this region a popular tourist destination. There are long sandy beaches for swimming, mountains for hiking and easily within day excursion distance are popular destinations such as Porta Venere, the Cinque Terre, Lucca, Pisa and a little further a field Florence, Siena and the Maremma beach area.
Pietrasanta is well connected being 32km from the Pisa Airport and on the main railway line between Pisa, Genoa and Parma.
