Entering the apartment with its high ceilings, gothic windows and frescoed walls, one can appreciate the long and noble history of the Venice republic, and the apartment provides many reminders of the former grandeur of these times. The owners have done a great job of preserving these characteristics whilst integrating modern comforts for a pleasant stay.
Features - There is a fine sense of history in this apartment
Description The Giacomo Apartment is a completely renovated accommodation of about 90 sq. metres located on the first floor of a building near Campo S. Giacomo dell'Orio. Within a few minutes it is possible to reach both the Rialto and Campo S. Polo (and, from there, to the Basilica dei Frari). The entrance from the street leads into a lovely court with columns and a stone staircase that leads upstairs to the apartment on the first floor. The front door opens into an imposing salon of about 70 sq. metres with a frescoed wall, sun filled gothic windows, Venetian marble floors and 4.5 metre ceilings. The furniture of the salon is partly in antique Venetian style and features two big Murano chandeliers, an antique dining-table and chairs, an eighteenth-century bureau, some statues and antique paintings and for comfort, a large sofa with two armchairs and a modern bookcase with TV and video-recorder. The rest of the apartment has more modern styling. A door leads through to the kitchen with breakfast table and paved with Italian cotto tiles. It is equipped with a fridge and freezer, a traditional oven, four gas hobs and a washing machine. Down a corridor is the sleeping area with two bedrooms and a bathroom. This area has parquet floors and the bedrooms can be set up as one double and one twin or two doubles. The bathroom has a bathtub with built in shower. The area around Apartment Giacomo is quiet and residential. There are many small piazzas with coffee shops, trattorias and grocery stores.

This locality
Conveniente to the transport terminals, the Santa Croce area is considered too quiet or removed by many tourists. True it is 20 minutes or so to walk to San Marco with its thronging crowds, but this is where many Venetians have their homes, amongst the lovely piazzas and parks or along the canals that wind their way between them. Many guidebooks will recommend this area to discover small trattorias with local cuisine or to mingle with the locals for an evening aperitivo.> more
